Role Description

At Zeal, we’re all about giving our lives for young people. And we're looking for someone to join our team in Taranaki.

You will be responsible for leading delivery of our youth work and project delivery programme at Zeal Taranaki, providing support, guidance and team leadership to youth work team and support to Zeal Taranaki Manager.

Key Responsibilities
· Lead our youth work team at Zeal Taranaki, providing support and guidance to our youth workers in building safe, positive relationships with young people.

· Lead delivery of our afternoon hangs, in-centre and in-school mentoring, work-readiness and event programmes.

· Provide youth development practice leadership to Zeal Taranaki space.

· Provide youth workers with ongoing support and coaching in dealing with young people experiencing distress.

· Engage with young people directly and build positive and effective relationships, in line with best practice strengths-based youth development.

· Lead delivery of initiatives that increase number of young people connecting to Zeal’s space and programmes.

· Assist the Zeal Taranaki Manager and other Zeal staff in developing and coordinating events and youth work activities.

· Work alongside other Zeal staff, implementing the strategic direction of Zeal.

· Proactively manage delivery on contractual requirements for relevant funding agreements.

· Meet all administrative, reporting and file management requirements.

· Comply with all health, safety and wellbeing procedures, reporting any health and safety issues, hazards or possible risks to the Manager.

· Play an active and contributing role within the Zeal Taranaki and Zeal nationwide team, fostering shared learning opportunities and experiences.

· To assist the Zeal Taranaki Manager in any other capacity as directed.


Skills & Experience
· You know your stuff. You’ve got a relevant tertiary qualification in youth development and 4+ years’ experience in youth/community development, or a similar field.

· You have working knowledge of The Circle of Courage and Te Whare Tapa Whā.

· You have a demonstrated ability to build relationships with young people.

· You have a demonstrated ability to mentor and coach others.

· You have a proactive, self-motivated mindset and approach.

· You think outside the box to produce fresh ideas and concepts.

· Young people and creativity are deeply important to you, and you've got the experience and knowledge to back it up.

· You're hungry. When you wake in the morning your stomach rumbles, waiting to be filled with epic social change.

· You tick the boxes on our people values (seriously, read them, they're very important to us).


Additional Information
This role is part time and based at Zeal Taranaki. Applicants must have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
