Senior Protection Engineer
New Plymouth or Tauranga - Other locations considered for the right candidate
About the role
As a Senior Protection Engineer, you will play a crucial role in providing specialised technical plans, standards, and guidance for the development, maintenance, and operation of Powerco's electrical protection and control systems. If you have an analytical mindset, enjoy problem-solving, and are passionate about making a meaningful impact in the field, we want to hear from you!
Key responsibilities include:
Develop detailed designs for electrical protection and control schemes.
Establish and maintain engineering standards and templates.
Contribute to project planning and processes.
Conduct investigations and propose effective solutions.
Coordinate team activities, mentor, and provide training.
Offer technical support for operational challenges.
Oversee and participate in the commissioning of systems.
Ensure adherence to health and safety protocols.
Engage in industry consultations and deliver technical training.
It is preferable that candidates have:
Extensive experience in substransmission & distribution with expert knowledge on protection and control system design.
Advanced analytical, investigation and problem-solving skills
Flexible approach to working hours, i.e. work on after hours on-call
Knowledge of distribution network planning and standards.
Hands-on experience in power system analysis.
Experience in developing and delivering technical training.
Tertiary qualification in electrical engineering (BE, NZCE) or equivalent.
Minimum 7 years’ experience in Engineering Subtransmission or Distribution networks
