We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic, and committed Probation professional to take up an exciting opportunity as Senior Practitioner located in Hawera, Taranaki.

As a Senior Practitioner you will play a key role in driving the outcomes that are at the heart of Hōkai Rangi. Hōkai Rangi is Ara Poutama Aotearoa's organisational strategy which recognises and builds on the good work we are already doing. It does, however, look to find new and alternative ways to achieve better outcomes for the people in our care and their whānau which will result in reduced reoffending.

The Senior Practitioner position is regarded as an expert working in the Supported Decision Framework. Senior Practitioners manage a balanced caseload, with an emphasis on more complex cases involving either medium or the high-risk people in our care.

The position also assists with risk assessments and the provision of information as required. Working with Service Managers to support and role model good practice using the Integrated Practice Framework and provide ‘in the moment' advice to peers and team members, along with mentoring as required.

Additionally, the position assists Service Managers with quality checks on sentence management, staff development, along with supporting the implementation of new or changed practice and procedures related to probation work in Community Corrections.

A key focus of Hōkai Rangi is the humanising and healing of those people in our care and management. Ara Poutama Aotearoa staff will focus on having relationships with these people, and their whānau, that are based on manaaki and contribute positively to their wellbeing and wairua.

Proven competency and experience as a probation practitioner managing high risk offenders.
Knowledge and experience in all aspects of the management and implementation of community-based sentences e.g. legislation, sentences and orders.
Knowledge of the Community Corrections Integrated Practice Framework.
An understanding of and the applicability of our Hōkai Rangi strategy and our values
An understanding of the research into ‘what works' and the engagement models used for dealing effectively with people in our care and their whānau.
Effective facilitation skills.
Professional credibility.
A solid understanding of motivational interviewing, and advanced communication skills are absolute must haves.



Utu ā-tau | Salary

The full salary range is $83,969 - $92,469. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
