Te āheinga - The opportunity
We are proud to announce an exciting opportunity within our Digital Enablement Team, following an internal promotion. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior GIS Specialist to join our dynamic team. Our District is committed to innovation, excellence, and leveraging cutting-edge technology to serve our community better.
As a Senior GIS Specialist, you will be responsible for the implementation, support, and maintenance of the district's geographic information system (GIS) and other database applications. This role requires performing complex analysis, modifying GIS applications and databases, and reviewing new GIS hardware and software.
Tino takohanga - Key responsibilities:
Provide a responsive, effective and efficient GIS service for internal and external customers
Administer geodatabases and coordinate with GIS staff to create and maintain feature data and ensure workflow changes are documented
Design and update GIS and other information systems and databases
Assist with backup rotation cycles and archiving previous year's data
Research and review advances and new technology in the GIS area
Ensure that a data structure plan is designed and organised to meet user requirements, and that logical and physical data models are consistent
Create innovative and maintainable applications using the ESRI product set
Create and maintain metadata and standards for all GIS data.
Actively ensure that legislative requirements and Council policies and procedures are fulfilled, particularly in relation to all key relevant legislation
Contribute to the development of a Data Strategy which supports the goals outlined in the Digital Strategy
Ngā tino pūkenga me ngā wheako - Essential skills and experience:
A tertiary degree in Geography, GIS or equivalent
Well-developed interpersonal skills and relationship engagement
At least five years' experience in the area of Geospatial, map production and database management
Ability to demonstrate technical competence and understanding in GIS, ideally with experience in the ESRI product set and SDE
Maintains an excellent understanding of GIS practices and processes, and keep abreast with technology changes within the GIS field
