Senior Accountant - Construction Industry

Part Time – 30 Hours
Hawera Based

Are you a detail-driven Senior Accountant with deep construction industry knowledge? Join our client’s expanding construction and excavation company and take ownership of financial processes, driving improvements across operations, supporting business growth through financial insights and proactive cash flow management.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management and Analysis - Manage daily accounts, prepare clear financial reports, analyse job costs, and track project profitability to support decisions.
Construction focused Accounting - Maintain accurate job costing, tract site costs, manage billing and change orders, and ensure compliance with industry standards
Cash Flow & Working Capital - Forecast cash flow needs, streamline billing, manage vendor terms, and ensure timely, accurate invoicing alongside project managers.
Efficiency & Cost Management – Identify cost-saving opportunities, optimise equipment use, review contracts for savings, and streamline accounting processes.
Strategic Support – Provide financial insights for planning bidding and project decisions, support growth decisions, and prepare financial reports for banking relationships and bonding requirements

Preferred Qualifications and requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
Minimum 5 years of accounting experience in construction, excavation, or related heavy industry
Strong understanding of construction job costing, progress billing, and project accounting
Proficiency in construction accounting software (experience with QuickBooks, Sage, or similar preferred)
Advanced Excel skills and financial modelling capabilities
Knowledge of construction industry regulations, lien laws, and bonding requirements
CPA designation or working toward certification
Background in cash flow management and working capital optimisation
Familiarity with equipment financing and depreciation schedules
Experience with union payroll and prevailing wage compliance
