Our Co-operative

Te Mātāpuna toa takitini

Fonterra’s strength is in the collective

We are a Co-operative created and owned by Aotearoa New Zealand dairy farmers. Our rich history is built on farming families working together to share the natural goodness of our dairy with the world.

Collaboration, innovation, and passion was the cornerstone of our creation and something we continue to value today through our commitment to care for the land, our animals, and every drop of milk. Our milk creates goodness through nutritious food with safe, quality ingredients that are loved here in New Zealand and around the world.

About the opportunity

The Farming Operations team within the Office of the Chief Operating Officer is responsible for the sustainable management of our farms to support Fonterra’s manufacturing sites across New Zealand.

Reporting to our General Manager Farming Operations, you will manage and develop sustainable and profitable farming units, and guide a high performing team. The successful candidate will work with the business, running a portfolio of farms across the Lower North Island, ranging in size and in farming systems. This is a highly visible, business critical role part of the NZ Farming Operations Leadership team.

Utilising your knowledge and experience of running multiple farming budgets and management processes, you’ll oversee the team to ensure farms are run in a sustainable, and effective manner, looking after the management of large-scale farms that balances nutrient application (from manufacturing operations) with agriculture. You’ll also make sure that our farms adhere to a proactive and high standard approach to Health and Safety.

This is an exciting and important role within our Farming Operations Lead Team and will help shape and drive strategy and innovative change in the environment and sustainable nutrient management space.

About you

Due to the scale of the land, you will have substantial, proven expertise in ensuring the effective and efficient management of multiple farming operations whilst achieving additional specific objectives.

You will be working closely with various internal and external stakeholders, as well as being heavily involved in community engagement, so it is fundamental to have strong senior leadership capabilities to ensure sustainable management of by-products and creating value for the Co-Op.

In addition:

Significant farm management experience, ability to manage multiple farms at a leadership level
Demonstrable strategic leadership as well as strong stakeholder and people management experience
Practical experience in agronomy would be nice to have but not essential
Comprehensive experience managing farm financials, including development and reporting against capital and operating budgets.
Proven ability to achieve agribusiness goals leveraging knowledge and experience
