We have an exciting opportunity for a Land Management Officer - Riparian to join our team.

About us

The Taranaki Regional Council works with the Taranaki community to help make the region a fantastic place to live, play and do business.

Our mission is to work for a thriving Taranaki by promoting the sustainable use, development and protection of Taranaki's natural and physical resources, while advocating for the regions interests.

Our Land Management Officers play a pivotal role in achieving this mission through promoting our riparian management programme; one of the largest soil and water conservation programmes in the country.

About the role

The role of Land Management Officer (Riparian) is responsible for implementing the Council's riparian management programme and auditing the results. This role is focused on achieving change and getting results by convincing land owners to fence and plant land along the banks of watercourses with the aim of protecting and improving water quality. Additionally, auditing riparian plans to ensure they comply with any new regulations will be a major component of the role. This requires a proactive, confident approach to building relationships and using your superior influencing skills to achieve annual fencing and planting targets while also ensuring compliance with Council policies.

About you

You will need a relevant qualification and an understanding of the Resource Management Act 1991 will be an advantage.

The Council is a busy environment where you will enjoy utilising your effective influencing skills to achieve the implementation of the Council's sustainable land management programmes with particular emphasis on the riparian management programme. You will need to be versatile, resourceful and have exceptional communication and liaison skills. The work is conducted in all weathers and at times on rough terrain, so very good health and physical fitness is essential, as is a clean current driver's licence for a manual vehicle.

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:
•The ability to foster community and individual land user understanding of the need to use land resources in a sustainable manner
•A willingness to undertake compliance auditing when required
•A sound practical knowledge of rural activities that will enable you to develop a rapport with land users
•Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft and GIS
