We are looking to grow our New Plymouth planning team and need an Intermediate Planner and / or Senior Planner ready and motivated to provide excellent service to existing and new clients. This is the chance for you to begin an exciting journey with BTW as a Planner. You will become a core part of the team based in New Plymouth and also work closely with our planners in Hamilton. At BTW you will enjoy our flat structure and will feel that your contribution makes a tangible difference.

We have several great projects lined up and would like to have an Intermediate and / or Senior Planner hit the ground running with us as soon as possible. A thorough knowledge of the RMA and other relevant legislation is essential as is a good working knowledge of statutory plans in the Taranaki Region.

As an Intermediate Planner you will be responsible for undertaking the following work, depending on your skill set:

Contribute to planning projects and provide technical guidance and support to project teams.
Prepare and process (on behalf of Council’s) resource consent applications.
Prepare feasibility studies for potential projects and provide expert advice to clients.
Represent clients at Council hearings where necessary.
Carry out community and iwi consultation, including preparation of consultation documentation.
Provide planning policy services to clients in the form of policy analysis, submissions and representation at plan review hearings.
As an Intermediate Planner you will need:

Ideally more than 3 years’ experience in a planning position.
To be working your way towards full membership with the New Zealand Planning Institute.
The ability to develop and sustain strong relationships with staff, customers, and contractors.
To be motivated, professional, cooperative, and responsive to the needs of the team and clients.
Strong written and spoken English and ability to articulate issues and solutions.
Able to deliver in a timely manner.
Active listening skills - giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and asking questions as appropriate.
Critical thinking - using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
As a Senior Planner at BTW Company you will:

Lead a wide range of planning projects and provide technical expertise and support to multi-disciplinary project teams.
Prepare and process (on behalf of Council’s) resource consent applications.
Prepare feasibility studies for potential projects and provide expert advice to clients.
Represent clients at Council and Environment Court proceedings as required.
Lead community and iwi consultation, including preparation of consultation documentation.
Provide Planning Policy services to clients in the form of policy analysis, submissions and representation at plan review hearings.
Contribute to the professional development of BTW’s Graduate and Intermediate planners and provide leadership to the team.
Have the opportunity for business development and owning client relationships.
As a Senior planner you will need:

Ideally 7 years’ experience in a planning position, preferably with consulting experience.
Preferably Full membership with the New Zealand Planning Institute or the ability to obtain it in the near future.
The ability to develop and sustain strong relationships with staff, clients, and stakeholders.
To be motivated, professional, cooperative, and responsive to the needs of the team and clients and provide leadership.
