Directional Drill Team Leader Job Ad: Optrek Solutions



Work with us on building and maintaining New Zealand’s Ultra Fast Fibre (UFF) networks, using brand new JT5 drilling equipment. Be part of a fast growing team at Optrek Solutions.

Optrek Solutions are a team of enthusiastic individuals, who value your hard work and reward you for it. We have ongoing work in the Lower Taranaki area, with a plan for growth in addition to our already secured contract work.

We currently seek an experienced Team Leader to join our busy civil/drilling team. The role will include various drilling activities such as:

- Leading a small, self-manged team

- Minimum 2 year’s drilling experience

- A proven ability to navigate the technical & operational requirements of conducting civil works on public/ private land
- Operating JT20 and JT5 directional drills - experience is a must
- Using F2 locating equipment
- Interpreting obstruction plans and lay plans and marking out/exposing services

Skills required:

- Team leaderships skill that bring out the best in others

- Can support the recruitment, selection & training of the team members you will hire

- Exceptional communication & people skills needed
- An enthusiastic, hard working, positive work ethic
- Positive commitment to Health and Safety rules and procedures
- Physically fit
- Minimum of NZ class 1 restricted license with a view to progressing to full and class 2 in the immediate future
- Aptitude for tools and mechanical equipment/machinery
- Prepared to work outside in all weather
- Willing to do labouring duties when required

The following qualifications and experience would be an advantage:
- Class 2 with WTR endorsement
- TC/STMS ticket
- Prior experience operating directional drills minimum 2 years
- Traffic management equipment set outs/assisting the STMS where required and ensuring ongoing compliance with TMP and safety on site
- Hauling cable through ducts
- Reinstatement of berms and footpaths with concrete, asphalt and topsoil in accordance with council specs (these will be explained)
- Checking/auditing machinery to ensure maintenance is up to date and any technical issues are promptly dealt with

Wage rates will be discussed at the interview, depending on your skills, qualifications and experience. All interviews will be conducted with complete discretion.
