About the role

The role of Environmental Scientist - Freshwater Biology - is to contribute specialist expertise and advice across a range of the Council's environmental and statutory functions. This role has a particular focus on freshwater fish, their distribution, habitat and passage. This role will require you to use your technical competencies alongside your project planning, coordination and delivery skills. You'll be an effective team player, working in close collaboration with other members of the Freshwater Biology and wider Science Services teams.

Please note this role will commence Thursday, 1 July 2021.

About you

This role requires someone with a tertiary qualification in Freshwater Biology/Ecology, preferably with some specialisation in freshwater fish. Relevant work experience in scientific monitoring techniques, data analysis and technical report writing for Freshwater Ecology is desired. Familiarity with instream structure design, fish passage remediation, freshwater fish sampling and identification would also be advantageous.

The Council is a busy environment where you will need to be versatile, resourceful and have exceptional interpersonal and organisational skills. You should be able to demonstrate strong initiative and problem solving skills, which will be regularly tested in this role. A full driver's licence is required.
