We are looking for a skilled and experienced Beekeepers to join our team for the upcoming season.
Egmont Honey is a family founded beekeeping business based in Taranaki. We run 3000 hives in and around the local Taranaki region. We are proud of the product we supply to several international markets and that good work and high standards start with our expert beekeeping team.
We are seeking three experienced beekeepers to join our high performing team based in Hawera.
The successful applicant will:
· Have at least two years’ experience working as a beekeeper in New Zealand. This is not an entry-level job.
· Be physically fit and able to perform all tasks related to beekeeping including but not limited to collecting honey from hives and extracting honey from combs, transporting hives to various locations, inspecting hives, treating them for diseases or parasites, ensuring bee colonies have enough food, providing pollination services by renting hives to orchards and farms, breeding queen bees, building and maintaining hives, packaging honey and honey products for processing, among others.
· Run their own business and keep records.
· Hold a valid, full driver licence.
· Have an interest in training and ongoing development.
· Have no allergies to bees or bee products.
Your role will include:
Hive & Bee Management
· Prioritising the health and welfare of beehives to ensure maximum productivity of the hives and that industry standards are met.
· Provide excellent bee husbandry to develop strong hives, healthy bees, and good queens so that production targets can be met.
· Demonstrate good bee management techniques.
· Execute harvesting of honey.
· Carry out seasonal repairs and maintenance to the hives and bee keeping equipment.
· Ensure that hives are at the right place at the right time to maximise pollination and production, moving hives in line with the database plan.
· Monitor hives – highlighting hives for honey production.
· Effectively implement insect, pest and disease management procedures including carrying out accurate documentation.
· Honey products are processed as directed.
Relationship Management
· Develop positive relationships with farmers supplying apiary sites.
· Provide general information as requested by the farmer ‘customers’ and public on bees.
· Respond to information on bee swarms including relocation of swarms.
Quality Control Management
· Comply with quality control and regulatory requirements for production to ensure standards are achieved and external audits passed.
· MPI standards, systems and procedures relating to health and safety and food safety are to be observed.
· Maintain complete and accurate records on specified production contracts, so that quality control issues can be monitored and addressed.
· Notify Manager of any shortcomings or problems relating to quality control, whether caused by staff error/performance or system process issues.
· Follow Health and Safety procedures.
The successful applicant will need to reside in Hawera during the harvest season.
Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
