About the Role

We’re seeking an Ecologist with an appropriate level of experience to join our team. The role level—whether Intermediate, Senior, or Team Leader will be shaped around the strengths, experience, and aspirations of the successful candidate.

BTW seeks a passionate and experienced Senior Ecologist to join our Team with options to work from Raglan, Taupō, or New Plymouth. You’ll provide expert ecological advice to private clients, local authorities, and internal teams, supporting a wide range of multi-disciplinary projects.

You’ll lead ecological assessments, restoration planning, and environmental investigations, ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines, standards, and legislation.

You’ll also help develop and maintain environmental procedures, mentor junior team members, and contribute to training and development. Building strong relationships with staff, clients, councils, and contractors is essential.

Experience in Mātauranga Māori and other knowledge bases, project management, proposal preparation, and environmental data collection is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Undertake ecological assessments and restoration of natural areas
Conduct environmental monitoring (surface water, groundwater, soil), technical reporting and preparation of management plans
Provide scientific advice and support for RMA consent applications and multi-disciplinary projects
Develop and maintain environmental procedures and best practices
Mentor junior team members and contribute to training initiatives
About You

Minimum 4 years’ experience in an Ecology role (preferably consultancy)
Proficiency in environmental monitoring and data interpretation
Strong knowledge of NZ terrestrial and aquatic ecology
Experience in ecological impact assessments and restoration biology
Familiarity with environmental regulations and project management
