Design Assistant / P.A.
Michael Mansvelt Design (MMD)
New Plymouth | 40 hours per week (or flexible for the right person)
Assist Michael Mansvelt and the MMD team in crafting some of Aotearoa’s most beautiful homes and gardens.
We’re looking for a bright, adaptable Design Assistant / Personal Assistant to join our small but mighty design studio, working across the high-end worlds of interior and landscape design. This is a unique opportunity to learn on the job while supporting award-winning designer Michael Mansvelt and a team that truly love what they do—and each other.
About the Role
You’ll support Michael and the wider MMD crew on a range of exciting projects—from coastal lodges and garden sanctuaries to refined interior spaces. Your work will vary between creative tasks (think 3D modelling and sample boards) and practical ones (organising calendars, client communications, and supplier wrangling).
No two days are ever the same—but they’re always interesting.
You’ll Be:
Malleable. If you already know everything, this job isn’t for you. We want someone curious, teachable, and happy to grow with us
Confident in SketchUp and AutoCAD (or similar software)
Naturally organised, a clear communicator, and not afraid to ask questions
Self-motivated and confident working independently, but equally happy collaborating as part of a team
Keen on design—whether it’s plants, wallpaper, joinery, or all three
Comfortable around clients, creative energy, and the occasional muddy boot
Drawn to soulful, trend-free design that’s grounded in nature and made to last
Who We Are
Michael Mansvelt Design leads the way in nature-inspired, timeless design in Aotearoa. We don’t follow trends—we design with soul, site, and story in mind. Our philosophy of Everyday Opulence is all about finding joy in the details, and creating homes and gardens that uplift daily life.
We’re a tight-knit team with a warm, loyal studio culture—full of humour, creativity, and collaboration. It’s not just about what we build—it’s about how we do it, and who we do it with.
The Offer
A full-time role (40 hrs/week), or flexible hours for the right person
Work alongside a nationally recognised designer on inspiring projects
Learn directly from an experienced, close-knit team across two design industries
Access to our plant nursery, lush studio, and extensive library of materials
Room to grow—whether you're starting your design career or returning to it
Immediate start if you're ready to jump in
Ready to join us?
Send your CV and a short intro to: [email protected]
We’d love to hear what draws you to this world. Send us an image of your favourite garden or home and tell us why it inspires you. Bonus points if you include a favourite plant, palette, or design detail you love.

Your application will include the following questions:
