Counsellor
Counsellor to work with families, parents and children

We are seeking an experienced and qualified Counsellors with a strong connection and affinity for Te Ao Maori to work with our diverse clients in a range of settings. We offer an interesting caseload with a lot of variety and the opportunity to be part of a small, dedicated team working across a range of DOJ, DOC, MOE, MSD contracts as well as private clients.
We are an established NGO providing counselling services to tamariki, whanau and individuals affected by family violence, historical trauma and a broad range of other issues. We have been undergoing a shift in our team and culture over recent months and moving forward we are working together as a team to co-design how we can best serve our clients across a range of contracts and modalities. We welcome your input into this development.
We can also offer the opportunity to undergo training and development in mediation and group facilitation or to contribute to the development of others if this is your strong point.
About the Role
You can expect to be looking after a busy caseload where no two days are the same. This may include working with individuals, tamariki, adults, rangatahi, couples, families or whanau affected by family violence, relationship breakdowns, mental health issues, parenting challenges, trauma and more.
The role is full time (32 - 40 hours per week pending) and based in our New Plymouth office. There may be some travel on occasion as our area of service extends from Waitara through to Hawera.
About You
You will be a passionate, energetic person with the ability to connect to children and their families. You will have a demonstrable commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to engaging authentically with people from all cultures and walks of life.
You will be knowledgeable, technically proficient in terms of relevant administration for your mahi, well organised and have excellent communication skills. Your approach to your work will be with compassion, good understanding and knowledge of various counselling Modalities and when and how to use them. Above all you will have the drive to do right by the Client.
In addition to being a passionate counsellor, you will also have:
· Experience working with vulnerable individuals, couples, whanau, youth and children
· Membership (in some cases provisional membership may be ok) with a professional organisation
· Flexible, skilled, safe and creative approaches in supporting vulnerable people
· Experience working with family violence and trauma
· Experience facilitating group programs (Adult and children) desirable
· A positive approach, problem solving mindset and a commitment to working collaboratively.

services for the whole community including counselling, mediation, social work, targeted short term therapeutic interventions for tamariki and parenting support.
Programs include supporting families experiencing family violence; ongoing counselling support to adults, couples, rangatahi, tamariki and whanau; social work; parenting programmes and family dispute resolution.
We are a charity incorporated under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957.
