About the Role -The primary purpose of this role is to ensure Council achieves its objective of becoming the most liveable district in New Zealand by ensuring community safety, safe streets and public spaces through the appropriate enforcement of the dog and animal control bylaws. It will also ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the district's town centres through practical implementation of the parking control bylaw

The Compliance Officer also promotes better care and control of dogs, provides public education and also manages unwanted animals and the rehoming of dogs. Keeping the pound facilities maintained is also a requirement of this role.

Do you have what it takes? - This is a busy role with plenty of variety from patrolling areas within the district where dog control problems may occur and dealing with animals and owners, patrolling restricted parking areas in Hawera and Eltham and issuing parking infringement notices where necessary and enforcing the requirements of the Dog Control Act, Dog Policy and Bylaws, Stock Control Bylaw, Impounding Act and any other relevant Act or Bylaw. In addition, this role will attend Council hearings and the district court when required by the Regulatory Services Manager and deal with any other environmental nuisances as directed.

About You - You hold an occupation-related certificate and NZQA Animal Control Officer training is desirable. You will have knowledge of the Dog Control Act 1996, Impounding Act 1955, Dog Control Bylaw and Policy, Stock Control Bylaw and General Bylaws and experience and confidence when handlings dogs and stock. A "can-do" attitude, supportive team player, self-motivation, the ability to work under pressure, excellent customer service and people skills, excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills are also required for this role. In addition, you will hold a current (clean) drivers' licence, be able to drive a manual vehicle and either hold or be eligible to obtain a firearm's licence.

The salary range for this position is between $55,890pa and $62,100pa and the appointed starting level will be dependent on skills and experience and will be discussed during interviews with shortlisted candidates.
