Te āheinga - The opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as a Climate Change Mitigation Advisor. You will need to be self-motivated to seek out emission reduction opportunities, able to undertake detailed carbon assessments and strategic planning, and have the skills to foster relationships and collaborate with various parts of the Council's operations.

This is a unique opportunity to address the challenges posed by climate change and align with national commitments set by the Government. We are seeking someone who can lead key workstreams outlined in the NPDC Emissions Reduction Plan. The role will be responsible for reducing Council's emissions and supporting the community to reduce emissions. Tasks associated with this role include leading our Infrastructure Decarbonisation Programme, identifying and supporting climate change mitigation opportunities within Council and overseeing energy management across the organisation.

Tino takohanga - Key responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Climate Change Response Lead advise on and implement Council's Climate Change work programme, with a particular focus on Climate Change Mitigation and Emissions Reduction
Develop and implement agreed deliverables within the work programme lead by the Emissions Reduction Plan
Advise on and undertake Emissions Reduction activities that contribute to councils and communities emissions reduction as agreed by the Climate Change Response Lead
Support the integration of climate change mitigation into the strategy, planning and delivery and support functions of Council and into key projects
Provide oversight on energy consumption and energy across the organisation and maintain relationships with key suppliers, and lead a virtual team for energy management
Identify opportunities and facilitate the implementation of measures that will reduce energy consumption and emissions from NPDC's activities as agreed with the relevant Business Owner and Climate Change Response Lead
Advise and support the decarbonisation of projects
Support the Council's efforts around improving our sustainability outcomes and facilitate and deliver key tasks relating to the reduction of energy and emissions across Council
Actively ensure that legislative requirements and Council policies and procedures are fulfilled, particularly in relation to all key relevant legislation

Tertiary qualification in a related technical discipline.
Developed political acumen
Proven experience in emissions reduction and mitigation processes
Experience in driving culture change initiatives
Highly effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
