We are seeking an Animal Control Officer to join our hardworking consents and regulatory team.
As an Animal Control Officer, you will be responsible for administering the Dog Control Act and other bylaws designed to ensure the safety and welfare of animals and people in the District.
Alongside this, the team proactively educates our communities in dealing with animals.
The ideal candidate will have:
previous experience working in a regulatory environment
strong and effective communications skills, with an emphasis on conflict resolution techniques and time management
attention to detail and a demonstrated track record of being able to follow protocols and procedures
computer literate
a clean full driver's licence is essential
a positive 'can do' attitude and a good sense of humour
an understanding of relevant legislation and enforcement practices
experience in handling dogs and stock with the ability to show empathy, both to animals and their owners, in situations of high stress.
Requirements:
Experience in animal control, enforcement, or a related field
Knowledge of animal behaviour, welfare, and relevant legislation
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Physical fitness and ability to handle animals of various sizes and temperaments
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
A firearms license is preferred
