Reporting to our Asset Management Lead the Operations and Maintenance Technician will play a vital role in keeping our projects and operations operating smoothly across a dynamic, high-growth business.
This role supports multiple assets across the Central North Island and requires frequent travel to these sites. We are open to applications from individuals in Taranaki and Waikato.
Purpose of Position:
The Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Technician plays a key role in the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Hiringa Energy’s hydrogen refuelling stations and production assets.
Reporting to the Asset Management Lead, this role is responsible for coordinating and performing routine maintenance, assisting with troubleshooting and minor repairs, monitoring operational performance, and supporting the execution of the maintenance schedule. The O&M Technician will ensure assets operate in compliance with Hiringa’s safety, quality, and operational standards while contributing to the continuous improvement of systems and processes across the network.
Role Specifications:
As an O&M Technician, you’ll be hands-on in the field—keeping our hydrogen assets running smoothly and safely. Your work helps ensure the reliable delivery of green hydrogen across New Zealand.
Your day-to-day tasks will include:
Execute planned maintenance activities as per the asset maintenance schedule and CMMS system.
Perform minor repairs and tactical hands-on work to ensure equipment remains in optimal operating condition.
Support unplanned maintenance tasks, troubleshooting equipment issues and escalating to the Lead or contractors as necessary.
Assist in commissioning activities and operational readiness of new assets.
Conduct routine inspections and data collection to monitor asset performance and reliability.
Identify and report operational or safety risks and participate in incident reporting and resolution.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, and performance logs.
Assist in the coordination of third-party contractors during site visits and maintenance work.
Provide feedback and insights for continuous improvement of maintenance plans and asset performance.
Support the implementation and improvement of asset monitoring systems and data collection tools.
Actively participates in Emergency Response Team for all real-world and scenario-based exercises.
Beyond the technical scope, you’ll be a key part of our field team culture—supporting your colleagues, working safely and efficiently, and helping shape our operational excellence as we grow New Zealand’s first green hydrogen refuelling network.
A bit about you:
You will have a minimum number of 5 years (+) experience in production operations.
You will have a trade-based qualification e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Operations etc.
You will have familiarity and experience working with maintenance and reliability systems.
Operational/Site experience in a production facility is preferred.
Other Skills:
Comfortable and confident operating in a high growth environment where adaptability and flexibility required.
Confident working with multiple internal and external stakeholders across various levels of seniority.
Excellent written & oral communication skills including the ability to present and facilitate confidently.
Strong organisational, time management and problem-solving skills.
Exceptional interpersonal skills.
Ability to deal with sensitive information in a confidential manner.
Self-starter able to work with minimum direction on multiple tasks and to meet deadlines.
