About Us

New Plymouth District Vet Group is a leading Best Practice Accredited clinic situated in New Plymouth. We are a busy mixed practice with a strong reputation for quality care and progressive veterinary services. Our experienced and passionate veterinary nurses provide valued support to our vets and a high level of care for both pets and clients.

Our team values professionalism, respect, honesty, integrity, and cooperation. Each day we are committed to providing the highest standard of care and empathy for our clients and their animals. We are passionate about creating a wonderful work culture and it's hugely important that you share our values and views on what a great workplace looks like.

Many of us love Taranaki as a place to live – not too city, not too rural! New Plymouth offers a vibrant lifestyle with events, concerts, family activities, and outdoor adventures all at your doorstep.

What are we looking for?

A veterinarian with a minimum of 2 years' experience, and strong skills in large animal care (primarily dairy)

Confidence in companion animal medicine is advantageous, but it is not essential

A passion for the future of dairy farming, with ideas and enthusiasm to help us develop new and complementary services for this sector of the clinic from herd health innovation and preventative care – to progressive farm support programs

Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with our farming clients

A collaborative team player who values working alongside vets, vet nurses, and our client care team

What we offer:

Competitive remuneration: Salaries are based on experience and expertise, with generous after-hours allowances. We also provide benefits such as health insurance, income protection, professional membership, and your birthday off!

Flexible work arrangements: Full-time is preferred, but a 4-day week would be considered

After-hours roster: One night per week, and one weekend in every six. We have two vets on-call at any one time

Professional development: We actively encourage CPD opportunities, both in-clinic and external, tailored to your career goals. For this role, we are especially supportive of further training in dairy herd health, farm management services, and veterinary innovation

This is an opportunity not only to be part of a supportive and forward-thinking mixed practice, but to influence the future direction of dairy veterinary services in our region. If you’re excited about both hands-on farm work and leading innovation in the dairy space, we’d love to hear from you.
